I just attended a LPU chat with Phoenix, unfortunately it was cut short due to Phoenix’s internet giving him problems, but he gave some good anecdotes before he left, as well as reminiscing about the mullet contest and how Brad “dressed up his mullet” to win


Heres what he told us:

• It can take a long time to learn to play bass, learning an instrument is depends on how much time you put into it.
• Talked to Chester this afternoon, hes starting to feel better, and getting worse up until today, he has a virus, high fever, etc.
• In response to the possibilities of a live DVD, he recommended the recording of the show in Madrid.
• He likes bacon, he had a turkey wrap and coke for lunch on the plane.
• After the show the travel or stay where they are.
• He was speechless the first time he met Paul McCartney at the Grammys, he has always looked up to him as a bass player.
• SNL was great, he’s a big fan of the show, felt more at home than they did the first time they performed there.
• Favourite bass players – Adam from U2, Paul McCartney.
• Enjoys playing sports games, Fifa is a favourite.
• Transformers 3 – he said he can’t reveal anything, they’re not doing a soundtrack but may be involved in something else.
• His dogs names are Bella and Jake.
• Favourite from ATS – Blackout, fun to perform, proud of how the whole album came out.
• Linkin Park are trying to arrange shows in Asia towards the end of the year.
• Doesn’t speak Italian and a little Spanish, even less German and even less Portuguese and even less Japanese.
• All band members have always done back up vocals but they are usually buried a bit more in the mix, for ATS they were brought up a bit more, during live shows he sings on 4 or 5 songs, and some of the older songs now he has a microphone to layer vocals with Mike, he said it makes it more interesting and fun for him to play live shows.
• Favourite books – reads action books, recommends – Guns, Germs, and Steel and the author Malcolm Gladwell, he read all the Harry Potter books, but got burntout in the movies.
• He says the chat was in celebration for Mike’s birthday.
• The Linkin Park tour rider – lots of food, a juicer as he and Chester likes to juice vegetables.
