Mike was on the LPU chat a few hours ago, here’s a summary of what he talked about (random trivia and some useful information). Sorry for the delay he did this chat in the middle of the day and I was in school, couldn’t quite post right away.

  • Mike was sick, some of the other guys too but he’s feeling better now.
  • “Official Studio Time” in a week.
  • Mike talked about iPhone apps he uses for studio recording: Beatbox (I think that’s what he said), Nanostudio, and something I couldn’t quite hear, he has more on his iPod.
  • Reanimation and Hybrid Theory artwork: he showed us some sketches that he found in his closet and he showed it to us. (HT solider from 2000). Frank Maddocks did a lot of work on them.
  • He mentioned that he started art when he was young (3-4 years old), before he got into music, he got into piano because his mom thought it’d be good for college admissions. He ended up quitting piano lessons.
  • He mentioned Fort Minor, no plans in the future.
  • Robot Boy live: it’d be hard because there’s more than 15 overlayed vocals, he doesn’t know how that’d work but if they did it’d be a really stripped down version.
  • He showed us some paintings behind him that he collects and one painting he did with Gary Baseman (in the picture, the pink one) and another one (blue one, screenshot below) that he did.
  • No project with Skylar Grey in the future, nor with anyone else. He doesn’t really talk to Holly Brook anymore.
  • He mentioned When They Come For Me on SNL, they thought it’d be a really good live song so they decided to do it on SNL. Blackout was another alternative but they had to pick one and picked WTCFM.
  • He doesn’t have a favorite color.
  • Favorite live song: He said he likes playing Bleed it Out but it changes often.
  • He switched from Blackberry to the iPhone because everything he has is pretty much on Apple and he liked the apps and games.
  • He mentioned DJ Lethal and that he doesn’t follow him so he didn’t know about the comments DJ Lethal said, if there was a fight to be had that Joe and DJ Lethal would be capable settling it on their own.
  • LP are hoping to do more LPU Summits.
  • Another tour after Europe with plenty of breaks for writing or “whatever”.
  • Mike said he’s sorry that they didn’t hit a lot of cities in the US, they would have liked to. He said they need to hit more places, Canada in particular, Mexico as well. Then he said…that people in Europe people just hop on a plane, train, any form of transportation and go to a show. He said that the North American people should learn that… (harsh, Mike.)
  • He said that they were shocked to do the roundtable discussion with the UN Secretary General, check out DownloadToDonate.Org.

Not harsh. It’s true. If you can’t afford or make the effort how is that his problem?

  • Ana A.

Yeah I understand but in Europe things are much closer. Anyone can hop on a train or bus and go to another country. But I live in TX, south, there’s no trains, if you have no car you can’t even make it to downtown easily, yeah no buses. I went to NY to see them and traveled to other states to see them but it certainly isn’t cheap to travel. NY alone cost me nearly $500. Fans up northeast have it easier there’s more transportation, states are closer. Down south it isn’t easy, going across the states takes nearly 10 hours in car. CA is also large so people near CA (Washington or oregon for example) can’t make it to San Diego, Vegas, SLC easily. I do travel but I have friends that aren’t that lucky financially and can’t nor have the right papers (visa) to go to another country to see LP. So I feel for those people lol that’s why I thought it was kinda harsh.

  • Parker

It’s not so cheap here, in Europe, as well. And it’s not that easy too.
Yeah, we don’t have problems with visa, but trips are long too.
I think it’s all about appreaciation. Few years ago, US used to get much more of everything than the rest of the world. People from other continents wanted to show they deserve it as well. Today the difference between what US and Europe get isn’t that big but it just remains of it, I guess. Europe is used to take any chance and people are trying to do everything in their power not to miss anything.
US fans have the assurance that they will play somewhere near them sometime (they visited about 20 states this year) while we are only sure they’ll visit Germany and few other countries. And people just take their chances. For example, US had 26 shows this year (ok. at least they supposed to) while Europe had 14. 12 shows more – US fans are not it in a hurry because there’s no hurry in need. (in 2008 US had 42 shows, Europe – 29).
    That’s how I see it.

I don’t say US fans don’t appreciate what they get, I wouldn’t even dare to say so. I’m saying, other fans are used to “fight” harder than US fans ’cause they used to get much less before.

these things always sneak in, I must just miss the announcements. If I had lots of money, didn’t need my job, was not terrified of traveling [those security people do not need to touch me nor see me naked], someone to drive me everywhere, and did not have cats, then i would have gone to all the shows in the US. I currently do not have a passport so out of country shows are not possible right not.

  • Ana

Parker, I think it’s easier over there in Europe than over here. At least not so much looking at NY or states up in the New England area. North America is very large and it isn’t easy to get to one place or another, we don’t have many choices when it comes to how we want to travel, there are no trains here (where I live at least) hardly any buses to take you anywhere (yes, even out of state) even if there are buses it’s expensive, especially when the gasoline shot up to about $3.75 per gallon, because of the increase in gasoline, diesel , and oil; bus fares, airfare, etc are also increasing prices. If you want to get anywhere easy and fast it’d have to be by air. Round trips cost about $350+ that’s just estimating airfare, there isn’t any hotel or any other extra costs. Things here are far, shows aren’t very close…at least where LP play, up north again, it’s closer. States are smaller and people have more options on how to travel (you’ve got to understand that New England area is old and has plenty of transportation) in the middle and South of the USA there’s more land, and with limited options on how to travel. I hear how fans travel in Europe all the time, from different countries, like from England to France, Poland to Germany, Netherlands to Germany..it’s common isn’t it? I had an aunt live in Belgium she would say she’d leave in the morning to go to France easily by train. Over here it isn’t common to go even 100+ miles just hop on the train and leave, maybe if we had such options we would. How I see things is that Europe (at least the places LP are playing) are tightly close to each other, or somewhat, you know? I kinda see Europe as New England (here in the USA) it’s old, plenty of transportation. I mean I know when you want to go to Europe there’s travel packages to go several countries like England to Italy, etc. not common for those here (like NY to FL for example). AND I’m not saying that it’s EASY for everyone, yeah it’s easy for some (keyword: SOME) LP fans in the USA to get around and go to more than one show, not easy for others just like in Europe, but I’m saying for the most part I see that it is.

Although I agree with you on how European fans try to everything in their power to go to a show. We get it LP are a USA band, of course they’re gonna tour in the states, I guess that’s why plenty of fans prefer for LP to go to a city near them they just wait till their next tour. Which generally they do, we do get more shows although I think it’s because we’re more spread out. The ones that need more shows are Canada and Mexico, which they were completely screwed with this “North America” tour.

  • Parker

I see. And I think both of us are right (at some point) in our statements. Mixing them up we get the answer :) Anyway, Mike shouldn’t have said it that way
And yeah, I totally agree – Canada and Mexico were completely screwed this tour.
