The alternative rock band teased fans with the awards show display for their new single “Burn It Down,” which featured set design from the unreleased music video.
Southern California rock band Linkin Park gave fans a glimpse of what to expect from their “Burn It Down” video with their Billboard Music Awards performance on Sunday night. The track is the first single off their fifth studio album, Living Things, which streets in June.
The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Mike Shinoda, one of the founding members of Linkin Park, and co-producer Rick Rubin on the group’s latest offering while walking the red carpet at the show.
“Tonight is almost like a preview of what the video is going to be. Nobody has really seen the video yet,” Shinoda said of the performance to come. “We actually used pieces of the set, I don’t know if it’s actual pieces of the set or if they’re just made to look like the set.”
One of the more remarkable things about the alternative rock band is their unwavering commitment to the style and sound with which they started, coupled with the ability to keep things fresh from one album to the next.
“On the new record you’ll hear elements of all of our records on it, which is one of the things that this record is all about,” Shinoda said of Living Things. “I’ve been really excited about some new cutting edge electronic music and technology.”
Staying connected to the fans is of paramount importance to the band, according to Shinoda, who fielded an impromptu Q&A via Twitter in the thirty-minute lull before the awards show kickoff.
“Staying close with the fans and really active online is part of who we are, so we had like a little hang out — me and a few hundred people,” Shinoda explained of his pre-awards show chat.
