Rolling Stones Chat with Mike Shinoda and Mike Einziger [Summary & Video]

Here’s a summary of the Rolling Stones chat with Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and Incubus’ Mike Einziger, there’s also video which Rolling Stones have put up be warned it lagged a lot so you can watch that above (thanks to LPTimes for the tweet) or read the summary below.

Mike Shinoda was at his home studio broadcasting he had technical difficulties at the beginning he did not log in with his own account he logged in with Adam from LPUHQ’s twitter account. Mike Einziger broadcasted from the studio Incubus HQ, I believe he said.

They began to answer some questions but they sort of got delayed then Mike Shinoda tweeted for fans to ask him questions via Twitter. I’ll be referring to Mike Shinoda as Shinoda and Mike Einziger as Einziger to ease the confusion.

  • Favorite songs from each other:
    • Shinoda mentioned Megalomaniac as his favorite Incubus song, he also mentioned Dig, Drive, he’s got ton of stuff on his iTunes.
    • Einziger loves the last LP record, he mentioned he liked Wretches & Kings.
  • Halo:
    • Incubus are good at Halo, but they haven’t played in a long time. Shinoda said that they used to play. But haven’t in a while.
  • Shinoda on playing new songs for the Honda Civic Tour:
    • Shinoda says for the North America tour he’d imagine LP would play more new songs because the album would be out by then but for Europe maybe just a few songs, “one or two” new songs.
  • Shinoda on Fort Minor:
    • Fort Minor isn’t dead – Shinoda says he’s trying to focus on the LP stuff, he thinks there’s FM elements in LIVING THINGS, he mentioned Wretches & Kings having more of a FM feel to it. The next album has more rapping on it, so if FM is your thing then you’ll probably enjoy LIVING THINGS
  • Einziger is going to get Instagram just because Shinoda asked him.
  • Shinoda mentioned that Joe Hahn would fall asleep in the most random places, on Monday meetings their manager Ethan took a picture of Joe asleep every time he did.
  • Shinoda on art shows:
    • No art shows, Shinoda is putting all his attention in Linkin Park and LIVING THINGS record since the album comes out in about a month.
  • They’re working on the video right now, (probably BURN IT DOWN?)
  • Dubstep/Electronic
    • Someone asked Einziger if he liked skrillex then he went on about dubstep.
    • Shinoda said he likes dubstep but he doesn’t go deep into it, he likes Skrillex. At the beginning of writing LIVING THINGS, the management were trying to help out and they asked LP if they wanted to do any songs with electronic producers and Shinoda felt like Linkin Park are better making their own records on their own then afterward maybe remix the songs from there.
    • Shinoda said he doesn’t want anyone thinking they’re on the electronic bandwagon because it’s hot, he thinks that they should do their own magic and Linkin Park didn’t want to play “catch up” with them.
  • Remixes of LIVING THINGS songs:
    • There might be a electronic, hip-hop, dubstep remixes, then Shinoda asked Einziger to do a heavy metal remix.
    • Einziger and Shinoda said they’ll do a remix, Einziger mentioned death metal but fans said heavy metal not death metal.
  • Shinoda went to Coachella one time a long time ago
  • They talked about “Try the Ketchup Motherfucker” and said how it’s really “try to catch up motherfucker” but fans have changed it to Try The Ketchup Motherfucker and made t-shirts (LPA) out of it and such.
  • Funny tour stories told by Shinoda:
    • Mishap on stage – there was one night they were closing the main part of the set for One Step Closer, normally LP leave the stage for a bit then come back for the encore. Right before that was In the End, Shinoda went down to the crowd, he was pumped up and getting the fans hyped up for the next songs but he forgot they changed the setlist, so after In The End they were supposed to take a break but Shinoda was still with the crowd. Everyone was hyped up and he had to leave and looked like an asshole, his bandmates were laughing at him and making fun of him. He basically had to pretend it never happened then continue playing the rest of the songs.
    • Drunk: Linkin Park went to this bar in Japan and Mike Shinoda was drinking beer, the beers they had were tiny, they’re so small so you can’t remember how many you had, Shinoda had a lot to drink and he passed out, then as the guys told him they had to go and were leaving the bar he left the bar but he realized he was alone, so he sat on the curb and as waited he fell asleep, next thing he knows he’s being woken up by the store owner, he starts to wake up and he sees the sun rising he asks what time it is and the store owner says “it’s like 5 in the morning!” His first thought was what happened to the rest of the guys, why did they bail on him. When his bandmates were leaving they had thought Shinoda already took a taxi home and left. So basically he fell asleep on the floor in Tokyo that night.
  • Shinoda talked about Dave Grohl and what Dave had said about Linkin Park that he didn’t like their live show, he had some misconception of playing backing tracks, especially vocals. Which is “bullshit”.
  • Shinoda also cleared up another rumor he saw: Chester has never had vocal surgery, he had a shoulder surgery.
  • Then Shinoda had to leave because his friend kept texting him.
